Are You Compromising With Yourself?

We’ve all been taught that compromise is a good thing. And yes, that’s generally right. Compromising with the people in your life can create better relationships at home, at work, anywhere. It often leads to mutual appreciation and understanding. But is compromising always a good thing? What about when we compromise with ourselves? How does that work?

Not sure what I’m talking about? Yes, you are. It’s when you say to yourself, I’ll just do it one more time—whatever “it” is. It’s I know this isn’t good for me, but… It’s anytime and every time that you make a deal with yourself, whether you realize you’re doing it or not. And usually that deal has long-term consequences that compound. That’s when compromising isn’t a good thing.

A Slippery Slope

It’s easy to turn a blind eye to the compromises we make with ourselves. They often seem harmless when they are happening. And let’s be clear, we’re not talking about perfectionism. But when those compromises (which aren’t based on a long-term plan or vision) happen again and again, compounding day after day, year after year, they grab hold. They start to define you—your health, your energy, your future.

What are we talking about here? It’s the ongoing decision to say yes to convenience food over real nutrition. It’s making choices that don’t support proper sleep or rest. It’s ignoring stress until you’re not so busy. It’s putting off chiropractic care until the pain is unbearable.

These choices add up, and before you know it, you’re living a life that’s really one big compromise. It’s uninspired. You’re no longer resilient. Life, your life, doesn’t have to be that way.

Compromising Your 100:100

The 100 Year Lifestyle® is about living at 100% for 100 years and beyond. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, that’s not just a catchy phrase, It’s a mindset—a non-compromising mindset. And that mindset encompasses your health, your habits, and how you show up in your life.

We’re back to the slippery slope again. The fact is, when you start compromising on movement, nutrition, relationships, rest, and spinal care to name a few, you compromise the entire foundation of your healthy longevity. That’s not just your present, but also your future. You end up trading your long-term vitality for short-term…what?

The Good News

Yes, there is good news. When you stop compromising even in small ways you build muscle to stop compromising in big ways. And you also build the momentum necessary to kick compromise with yourself to the curb. Stop scrolling to get a good night’s rest. Listen to your favorite music while you take the time to cook a healthy meal. Ask your chiropractor for tips on your lifestyle during your adjustment instead of texting a friend for the latest gossip. With each good decision you make, each step you take you are committing 100% to your 100 Year LifestyleⓇ!

Not sure where to start? Ask yourself what promises have I broken with myself? Where am I trading vitality for convenience? What am I pretending not to know about my body or my choices?
And then ask what’s one place I can stop compromising today? What’s one decision I can make right now that my future self will thank me for?

You deserve to live at 100% for 100 years or more. That starts with saying no out loud to the quiet compromises you’ve been making. That really means saying yes to your full potential.
